Calling all runners, walkers, movers and shakers: Brock University is seeking enthusiastic employees and spirited students to participate in this year\u2019s Rankin Cancer Run.<\/p>\n
The annual fundraiser in support of local cancer-care organizations is taking place remotely across Niagara throughout the month of May. Participants are encouraged to rally support and organize their own routes.<\/p>\n
Brock will be illuminating the Schmon Tower in orange on Saturday, May 28 in recognition of the annual community event, which has traditionally taken place the last weekend in May.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, May 31, Brock\u2019s Human Resources and Student Life and Success teams are hosting an event on campus that is open to the Brock community. Students, staff, faculty and librarians are invited to join Brock University\u2019s Rankin Cancer Run team and walk, run or roll a one- or five-kilometre route from noon to 1:15 p.m. Volunteers are also needed to help the day of the event.<\/p>\n
Co-Curricular Engagement Co-ordinator Christine Richard is one of several Student Life and Success team members who will be participating in the run. She encourages Brock employees and students to join her in supporting an initiative that is \u201cnear and dear to many hearts.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone has been affected by cancer in some capacity, whether they\u2019ve experienced it themselves, or their family members or friends have,\u201d she says. \u201cOn May 31, I will be running for my grandfather.\u201d<\/p>\n
Richard says participating in the Rankin Cancer Run is not only a great way to give back to the Niagara community, it\u2019s also an opportunity to reconnect with the Brock community.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter years of working remotely, I am looking forward to gathering in person, outdoors in the warm sunshine with colleagues and students,\u201d she says. \u201cWhat better way to reconnect with others than by supporting a great cause.\u201d<\/p>\n
