{"id":78102,"date":"2022-05-09T16:00:03","date_gmt":"2022-05-09T20:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=78102"},"modified":"2024-08-29T16:42:04","modified_gmt":"2024-08-29T20:42:04","slug":"virtual-event-wednesday-to-discuss-future-of-long-term-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2022\/05\/virtual-event-wednesday-to-discuss-future-of-long-term-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Virtual event Wednesday to discuss future of long-term care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new speaker series organized through Brock\u2019s Faculty of Applied Health Sciences kicks off Wednesday with a discussion about the future of long-term care.<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural event in the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/applied-health-sciences\/master-applied-gerontology\/events\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reimagining Aging Speaker Series<\/a> will be held Wednesday, May 11 from noon to 1:30 p.m. with an online discussion titled \u201cPutting life into years: Promising practices for reimagining long-term care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reimagining Aging is launching as an annual public lecture intended for the Brock audience and wider community about interesting topics within the field of aging and gerontology.<\/p>\n<p>The first speaker for the series is Pat Armstrong, a Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus at York University and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada who led the 10-year \u201cReimagining long-term residential care\u201d research project.<\/p>\n<p>The discussion will cover topics such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Promising practices to reimagine long-term care<\/li>\n<li>Lessons learned through the pandemic regarding what is needed for the flourishing and dignity of residents, staff and families<\/li>\n<li>How to bring joy to everyday life<\/li>\n<li>What we as citizens across all ages can do to make an impact<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The virtual event is free to attend and registration is <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/applied-health-sciences\/master-applied-gerontology\/events\/\">available on the Master of Applied Gerontology (MAG) events website.<\/a> Registrants will be sent a link to view the online discussion or can access the event directly on Wednesday afternoon <a href=\"https:\/\/call.lifesizecloud.com\/13782688\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">on the Lifesize streaming platform<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The series is affiliated with Brock\u2019s MAG program, a full-time, one-year program that celebrated its first cohort of graduates in June 2021.<\/p>\n<p>An advisory committee was established in fall 2021 consisting of older adults and caregivers living in the Niagara region, as well as representation from local health-care organizations, retirement homes, long-term care, community support agencies, current MAG students and recent graduates.
