{"id":77311,"date":"2022-03-25T13:40:29","date_gmt":"2022-03-25T17:40:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=77311"},"modified":"2022-03-25T15:52:36","modified_gmt":"2022-03-25T19:52:36","slug":"brock-prof-internationally-recognized-for-canadian-studies-contributions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2022\/03\/brock-prof-internationally-recognized-for-canadian-studies-contributions\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock prof internationally recognized for Canadian Studies contributions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock University French Professor Jane Koustas has been honoured with the 2022 Governor General\u2019s International Award for Canadian Studies.<\/p>\n<p>Presented annually by the International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS), the award recognizes scholars who have made outstanding contributions to the scholarship and development of the field internationally.<\/p>\n<p>Koustas says the support of her colleagues in Brock\u2019s Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Culture, and at the State University of New York at Buffalo and the University College Dublin in Ireland has been instrumental to her success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll prizes and awards really do reflect the strength of the support network,\u201d she says. \u201cI wish to thank the students, who always provide inspiration, and my colleagues on both the national and international scene who continue to offer encouragement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bringing together academics from many continents, the ICCS is a \u201creal community of scholars interested in Canadian Studies\u201d that Koustas says she is thankful to be a part of.<\/p>\n<p>Koustas has served as president of the Canadian Studies Network and the Secretary-Treasurer of the International Council for Canadian Studies. She spent three terms as the Craig Dobbin Chair of Canadian Studies at the University College Dublin, and held the James M. Flaherty Visiting Professorship there in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Koustas\u2019 research interests encompass English-Canadian literature in translation, translation theory and practice, the history of translation in Canada, and Quebec theatre and theatre translation.
