{"id":77184,"date":"2022-03-22T15:47:06","date_gmt":"2022-03-22T19:47:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=77184"},"modified":"2022-03-22T16:01:29","modified_gmt":"2022-03-22T20:01:29","slug":"community-invited-to-virtual-discussion-on-sustainable-business-practices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2022\/03\/community-invited-to-virtual-discussion-on-sustainable-business-practices\/","title":{"rendered":"Community invited to virtual discussion on sustainable business practices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An online community event hosted by Brock University next week aims to start a conversation with Niagara organizations on sustainable business practices.<\/p>\n<p>Business Matters: Operating in a Changing Climate takes place Tuesday, March 29 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.\u00a0The discussion will feature panelists from different industries and aims to share proactive and practical steps businesses can take.<\/p>\n<p>This is the seventh in a <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/goodman\/community-services\/business-matters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">series of panel talks<\/a> organized by Brock\u2019s Goodman School of Business. The event will be moderated by Todd Green, Associate Professor of Marketing at Goodman.<\/p>\n<p>Green, who studies corporate social responsibility, says every industry will be impacted by climate change, so it\u2019s important to look at what businesses can do locally to mitigate it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith big issues like this, sometimes people feel that there\u2019s nothing you can do that will make a difference,\u201d Green says. \u201cYet there are expectations from consumers that companies need to address climate change and make commitments to doing better.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will be a proactive discussion on how we can positively mitigate the impacts of climate change in Niagara, what steps businesses can take and how they can measure and manage their progress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Panelists include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jessica Blythe, Assistant Professor, Brock\u2019s Environmental Sustainability Research Centre<\/li>\n<li>Gabriel Demarco (BSc \u201913), Winemaker and Viticulturalist at Cave Spring Vineyard<\/li>\n<li>Natalie Lowe, President of Celebrate Niagara and the Sustainable Events Forum<\/li>\n<li>Mikayla Richards (BBA \u201919), Sustainability Analyst at EcoVadis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Following the panel discussion, the audience will have a chance to ask questions.
