The Brock women’s hockey team made history on Saturday, March 19.<\/p>\n
The Badgers captured their first provincial championship banner since the program began in 2000. Brock edged the Nipissing Lakers 2-1 in North Bay to clinch the team\u2019s first Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Women’s Hockey Championship.<\/p>\n
“We can’t stop smiling, crying and screaming. We are so proud of one another, because we promised we would do it for each other,” said senior defenceman\u00a0Paige Cohoon<\/a>. “If I had one word to describe this team, it’d be family. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter the talent you have, what matters is the heart. This team’s heart is unstoppable.”<\/p>\n Cohoon’s power-play goal at 9:07 of the second period stood as the game winner.<\/p>\n “There is absolutely no one I’d rather celebrate this huge accomplishment with,” she said of her team. “There’s no one else I’d rather make history with.”<\/p>\n Brock goaltender\u00a0Tiffany Hsu<\/a>\u00a0made 19 saves for the win, including seven critical saves in the final frame.<\/p>\n The Badgers’ leading goal scorer,\u00a0Cassidy Maplethorpe<\/a>, lit the lamp to open the scoring early in the second after a scoreless first period.<\/p>\n Carley Blomberg<\/a>\u00a0finished the night with two assists. Maplethorpe and\u00a0Emma Irwin<\/a>\u00a0each added an assist.<\/p>\n
