{"id":77052,"date":"2022-03-14T12:28:45","date_gmt":"2022-03-14T16:28:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=77052"},"modified":"2023-04-12T10:53:22","modified_gmt":"2023-04-12T14:53:22","slug":"business-students-continue-win-streak-at-international-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2022\/03\/business-students-continue-win-streak-at-international-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Business students continue win streak at international competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock business students have found repeat success after winning top honours for the fourth consecutive year at the 2022 World Trade Center Buffalo Niagara (WTCN) International Case Competition.<\/p>\n<p>The Goodman School of Business team competed virtually Friday, March 11 against students from Canisius College, the University of Buffalo, Niagara University, Daemen College and Niagara College.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s case focused on Speed Global Services, a supply chain solutions business in the Buffalo-Niagara region. The case dealt with supply chain management and global logistics of the company operating in a new global trade environment. The students had 24 hours to prepare their solution and be ready to present to the judges.<\/p>\n<p>The team comprised of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) student Jessica Foster, BBA International Double Degree students Ahmad Pasha and Malek Abou-Rabia, Bachelor of Accounting (BAcc) student Michael Cubelic and faculty advisors Kent Walker and Mark Parker.<\/p>\n<p>From the students\u2019 perspective, their success was a result of the team dynamic they were able to build through practices and mock training cases that really helped them when faced with a challenging case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t simply solve the world\u2019s global shipping and transportation issues in 24 hours,\u201d Abou-Rabia said. \u201cSo, we looked specifically at how we could help Speed Global Services navigate around the issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Once they decided on their recommendation, it came time to sell it to the judging panel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you get to present, even on a Zoom call, you have to bring the energy and capture the audience,\u201d Pasha said. \u201cIn our practices, we tried to keep the energy up because even if they don\u2019t necessarily agree with our recommendations that aspect will take us further.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The judging comprised of the President and other team members from Speed Global Services as well as representatives of the U.S. Department of Commerce, WTCBN, World Trade Center Toronto and the Consulate General of Canada in New York as well as others.<\/p>\n<p>Walker was impressed with the team\u2019s ability to analyze and synthesize the main points of the case to provide a persuasive presentation under the tight deadline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis fourth consecutive win corroborates the care with which Goodman prepares its students for \u2018real world\u2019 business situations by providing them with experiential learning that gives them the opportunity to acquire invaluable transferable skills for their future workplaces,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The team thanked their advisors, faculty members Eric Dolansky and Barry Wright for their feedback on presentations, Goodman alumnus Sukhwinder Gill (BBA \u201921) for his advice and the Goodman Student Programming team for helping them succeed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Brock business students have found repeat success after winning top honours for the fourth consecutive year at the 2022 World Trade Center Buffalo Niagara (WTCN) International Case Competition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":21,"featured_media":77053,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[119,39,1],"tags":[4823,2852,594,10107,8757],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/77052"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/21"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=77052"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/77052\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":84833,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/77052\/revisions\/84833"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/77053"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=77052"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=77052"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=77052"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
