Harvesting social media data, writing proposals and establishing research teams are the focus of upcoming workshops available to Brock researchers as part of the University’s Building Better Research series.<\/p>\n
Offered jointly by the Brock University Library and the Office of Research Services, the Building Better Research professional development workshop series is dedicated to enhancing research efforts at the University.<\/p>\n
All three sessions will take place from noon to 1 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.<\/p>\n
Harvesting Social Media Data<\/a> will be presented Wednesday, Feb. 23 by Digital Scholarship Librarian Tim Ribaric. The session will introduce basic tools and techniques to construct a dataset from social media. Participants will use the Google Colab environment to examine and interact with a typical dataset. No knowledge of programming is required.<\/p>\n Introduction to Proposal Writing<\/a> will be presented Friday, Feb. 25 by Research Officers Vincent Annibale, Sharlee Cranston-Reimer, Karen Espiritu, Danusha Kalinga, Suramya Mihindukulasuriya, Monika Ovsonka and Laura Smithson. The session will review the basics of proposal writing.<\/p>\n Establishing and Maintaining Your Research Team<\/a> will be presented Tuesday, March 1 by Michelle McGinn, Associate Vice-President, Research. The session will provide evidence-based guidance for leading, managing and contributing to effective research teams. Communication strategies, goal setting and researcher roles and responsibilities will also be discussed.
