{"id":76200,"date":"2022-01-25T09:39:24","date_gmt":"2022-01-25T14:39:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=76200"},"modified":"2022-01-25T16:07:53","modified_gmt":"2022-01-25T21:07:53","slug":"applications-open-for-annual-esri-canada-gis-scholarship-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2022\/01\/applications-open-for-annual-esri-canada-gis-scholarship-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Applications open for annual Esri Canada GIS Scholarship Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock University students interested in a career in geographic information systems (GIS) are invited to apply for a $1,000 scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>For the 11th consecutive year, Brock has been selected to take part in the <a href=\"https:\/\/scholars.esri.ca\/students\/faq-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Esri Canada GIS Scholarship<\/a>, an award program that provides software, books, training, funding and other benefits to undergraduate and graduate students at universities across Canada who can demonstrate competent use of Esri\u2019s geospatial technologies.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the competition will be held virtually, with an application deadline set for Friday, April 1. One student from each university will be selected to receive a cash prize of $1,000 plus additional books, software and learning opportunities through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/training\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Esri training site<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/esri.ca\/en\/training\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Esri Canada instructor-led online training<\/a><u>,<\/u>\u00a0as well complimentary registration for one of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/esri.ca\/en\/events\/esri-canada-user-conferences\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Esri Canada User Conferences<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The chosen Brock student recipient will be required to complete a poster and an ArcGIS StoryMap by Wednesday, June 1 outlining how they used Esri\u2019s suite of products to enhance or conduct their research. Projects may include personal research, academic projects or course assignments.<\/p>\n<p>Brock\u2019s 2021 Esri scholarship recipient was Master of Arts in History student Jessica Linzel, who was recognized for her <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2021\/06\/grad-student-earns-scholarship-for-digitizing-niagara-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">work to digitize trade routes in Niagara from the 18th and 19th centuries<\/a>. Story maps for all 2021 Esri scholarship recipients can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/collections\/10f34e6222b447b4869c5fae51722f67\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Esri Canada website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone interested in learning more about geographic information systems and\/or creating a story map, are invited to attend upcoming workshops offered by the Brock University Library Digital Scholarship Lab: Intro to <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/198213\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ArcGIS Online<\/a> on Friday, Jan. 28 and <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/196770\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ArcGIS Story Maps<\/a> on Friday, Feb. 4.
