The Brock Badgers are one step closer to returning to competition.<\/p>\n
Following the provincial announcement Thursday, Jan. 20 to ease restrictions on gyms, indoor dining and cinemas, Brock University\u2019s athletic facilities are preparing to reopen, while varsity teams will soon be able to resume training.<\/p>\n
Brock Recreation will reopen the Walker Sports Complex, including the Zone Fitness Centre, gymnasia and the Eleanor Misener Aquatic Centre, to all Brock students on Monday, Jan. 31. Access must be booked in advance and COVID-19 safety measures<\/a> remain in place, such as capacity being limited to 50 per cent and masks being required at all times. In-person recreational programming will return on a phased-in schedule as students return to on-campus learning.<\/p>\n Brock Sports will roll out a phased-in return-to-train schedule beginning on Monday, Jan. 31, for all of its Ontario University Athletics (OUA) winter sports programs.<\/p>\n \u201cOur student-athletes, coaches and staff are grateful to have the opportunity to return to sport again,\u201d said Melissa Krist, Director, Brock Sports. \u201cOur coaches and staff have been working diligently to prepare for a resumption of activity that provides a safe sport environment for all.\u201d<\/p>\n All student-athletes, essential coaches and athletic therapy staff associated with these teams are required to show proof of two negative rapid\u00a0antigen tests\u00a0prior to returning to train, and must follow strict COVID-19 safety\u00a0protocols.<\/p>\n A return-to-train schedule for Brock\u2019s fall teams is tentatively scheduled for two weeks after winter sports training begins, if the public health situation allows it.<\/p>\n The OUA paused all varsity sports on Dec. 17, 2021, due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases. Discussions are currently underway for a potential return to OUA competition, as well as to determine the status of upcoming U SPORTS championships.<\/p>\n All student-athletes, coaches and staff are also strongly encouraged to book their COVID-19 booster dose as soon as possible using\u00a0Ontario\u2019s booking portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n In addition, Brock\u2019s Student Health Services continues to host ongoing booster shot clinics Mondays and Wednesdays at Harrison Hall on campus.\u00a0Appointments are required and must be booked online through\u00a0the Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre booking link<\/a>.<\/p>\n
