Anyone interested in learning about emerging technologies to record podcasts, produce digital music and create 3D models is invited to attend several upcoming online workshops hosted by the Brock University Library Makerspace.<\/p>\n
Brock students and employees, as well as Niagara community members, are welcome to attend the engaging learning experiences virtually via Microsoft Teams. Workshop registration is available through ExperienceBU<\/a>.<\/p>\n Introduction to 3D Modelling<\/strong> will discuss different types of 3D modelling, templates, programs and how to print 3D models. Makerspace staff will also demonstrate TinkerCAD, which is a beginner-friendly 3D modelling web application. Online sessions are planned for Wednesday, Jan. 19<\/a> and Wednesday, Jan. 26<\/a>, both from 3 to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n 3D Maker Hour<\/strong> will involve participants working virtually with Makerspace staff using the free online software Tinkercard to make small and easy projects that can be completed during the event. The online session takes place Monday, Jan. 31<\/a>, from noon to 1 p.m.<\/p>\n Introduction to Podcasting<\/strong> will teach participants how to plan, record and edit podcast audio recordings. The online session is planned for Monday, Jan. 24<\/a> from 3 to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n Introduction to Soundtrap<\/strong> will discuss audio production capabilities in Soundtrap, which is a free online digital audio program to record and edit music and podcasts. The session on Friday, Jan. 28 from 3 to 4 p.m.<\/a> will focus on using Soundtrap to create and mix music beats and tracks. Those interested in working on an audio production project are invited to attend the Soundtrap Maker Hour<\/strong> on Friday, Jan. 21<\/a> from noon to 1 p.m.<\/p>\n The Library Makerspace is a collaborative space open to the Brock and Niagara communities to gain access to new and emerging\u00a0technologies<\/a>, such as audio production, photo\/video production, 3D prototyping, virtual reality (VR), robotics and digital prototyping.<\/p>\n In-person creative lab spaces include audio, video, photo and prototyping labs; 3D printers and carvers; laser cutting; stations with specialized software, such as GarageBand, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite and Easel; and stations with specialized equipment, such as a sewing machine, a Cricut Maker, and VR tools Oculus Rift S and HTC Vive Pro.<\/p>\n Brock faculty, staff and students can borrow loanable equipment, such as 3D scanners, mobile VR,\u00a0Sphero programmable robots, GoPros, 360 cameras, microphones and other video, photography and audio production equipment. To make\u00a0an appointment to use the creative tools or space, review available times on an\u00a0online calendar<\/a>\u00a0and then fill out an\u00a0online request form<\/a>.<\/p>\n In February, the Makerspace will launch themed and curated \u2018pathways\u2019 that combine a variety of workshops with maker hours. Examples of project outcomes include combining a 3D model with electronics, creating a song, and making a customized design for a sticker or sign.
