Brock University researchers interested in learning more about Insight Development Grants are encouraged to attend an upcoming webinar.<\/p>\n
Insights into Insight Development Grants<\/a> will take place Thursday, Dec. 9 from noon to 1 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.<\/p>\n The information session is part of the Building Better Research<\/a> professional development workshop series offered jointly by the Brock University Library and the Office of Research Services (ORS).<\/p>\n Research Officer Sharlee Cranston-Reimer will be reviewing the application components of the Insight Development Grants offered by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) in support of early-stage research.<\/p>\n Insight Development Grants<\/a> (IDG) enable the development of new research questions, as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches or ideas. Up to $75,000 in funding is provided for short-term individual or team research development projects for up to two years.<\/p>\n \u201cIDG is different from most other awards in that it has two different funding envelopes,\u201d Cranston-Reimer said. \u201cIt reserves at least 50 per cent of its funds for applications from emerging scholars<\/a>.<\/p>\n Also presenting at the information session will be recent recipients of IDG funding, Kyle Rich, Assistant Professor, Recreation and Leisure Studies, and Asma Zafar, Assistant Professor, Marketing, International Business and Strategy.<\/p>\n Rich will share his experiences and advice in securing funding for his research on “Sport Participation Policy Implementation: Regional Perspectives” and Zafar will share her experiences and advice on receiving a grant for her research on “The role of place in organizational dynamics.”<\/p>\n \u201cHearing advice from others can help to strengthen applications and elucidate the application process,\u201d said Cranston-Reimer. \u201cThe strongest applications have been prepared well in advance of deadlines, and this session is one way ORS is working to support applicants in their preparations.\u201d<\/p>\n Interested faculty researchers can register for the session via ExperienceBU<\/a>.<\/p>\n Those unable to attend the live session can watch a video recording that will be posted on the Research Enterprise SharePoint site<\/a> shortly after the session.<\/p>\n SSHRC is facilitating its own webinar on Insight Development Grants in both French and English on Thursday, Dec. 16.
