{"id":75366,"date":"2021-11-23T15:03:04","date_gmt":"2021-11-23T20:03:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=75366"},"modified":"2021-12-03T06:36:43","modified_gmt":"2021-12-03T11:36:43","slug":"six-brock-badgers-teams-make-u-sports-national-rankings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2021\/11\/six-brock-badgers-teams-make-u-sports-national-rankings\/","title":{"rendered":"Six Brock Badgers teams make U SPORTS national rankings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Brock Badgers have six teams in the U SPORTS Top 10 national weekly rankings as of Tuesday, Nov. 23.<\/p>\n<p>Brock has six out of eight possible teams represented across the national rankings for winter sports: basketball, hockey, volleyball and wrestling.<\/p>\n<p>The Badgers have five of those teams among the Top 5 in their respective rankings: men\u2019s wrestling (No. 3), women\u2019s basketball (No. 4), women\u2019s volleyball (No. 4), women\u2019s wrestling (No. 4) and men\u2019s basketball (No. 5).<\/p>\n<p>U SPORTS releases the Top 10 rankings each Tuesday using calculations based on results and voting from sports media or coaches.<\/p>\n<p>The three women\u2019s teams all climbed up to the top half of the rankings after successful weeks of competition, while men\u2019s wrestling and men\u2019s basketball remained in their previous placings.<\/p>\n<p>The Brock men\u2019s hockey team (4-1-1) made its rankings debut at No. 6, after a pair of wins over the York Lions.<\/p>\n<p>The No. 4-ranked women\u2019s basketball team jumped two spots from No. 6 after defeating the Windsor Lancers 86-63 on Saturday, Nov. 20 to improve to 5-0.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s cool to see where all of the teams rank across the country, but we don\u2019t worry too much about what teams we have to look out for,\u201d said women\u2019s basketball forward Samantha Keltos. \u201cWe scout the team that\u2019s in front of us that week. But, then, it\u2019s all about getting better every day to get to the end result.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The No. 4-ranked women\u2019s volleyball team shut out McMaster in a home-and-home series last week to move up two spots in the rankings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou always want to be No. 1, but this is a great start,\u201d said women\u2019s volleyball outside hitter Madison Chimienti. \u201cWe\u2019re on the radar, but we\u2019re always pushing forward. Facing adversity will only make us better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Badgers are 3-0 to start the season and have dropped only one set in the regular season of Ontario University Athletics (OUA). Brock also didn\u2019t drop a set through exhibition play.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Nov. 21, the No.4-ranked women\u2019s wrestling team placed first overall at the York Open, with Katelyn Romano and Daina Morris-Armstrong securing gold medals. Mia Friesen added a silver.<\/p>\n<p>The points boosted them up a spot to No. 5.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s wrestling team placed second at the York Open and maintained their No. 3-ranking.<\/p>\n<p>The No. 5-ranked Brock men\u2019s basketball team (5-0) trounced the Windsor Lancers 107-79 on Saturday, Nov. 20, to maintain their place in the national Top 10.<\/p>\n<p><strong>U SPORTS TOP 10 RANKINGS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>MEN\u2019S WRESTLING<\/p>\n<p>1.
