{"id":75077,"date":"2021-11-08T14:49:26","date_gmt":"2021-11-08T19:49:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=75077"},"modified":"2021-12-03T08:39:28","modified_gmt":"2021-12-03T13:39:28","slug":"new-video-competition-to-put-graduate-research-in-spotlight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2021\/11\/new-video-competition-to-put-graduate-research-in-spotlight\/","title":{"rendered":"New video competition to put graduate research in spotlight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock University\u2019s Faculty of Graduate Studies is rolling out the red carpet in the name of research.<\/p>\n<p>GRADflix, a new video research competition, is being hosted by the Faculty to showcase the work of current and recent graduate students.<\/p>\n<p>Students will submit creative, short videos of their research for a chance to win cash prizes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re proud of our graduate students and are excited to host an event highlighting their research and creative excellence,\u201d said Vice-Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies Suzanne Curtin. \u201cThis is the first time we are hosting GRADflix and our team will support our students in any technical or creative capacity we can to help enhance their research.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To help prepare participants for the competition, which calls for video submissions of under 60 seconds, a series of workshops is also being held beginning this week. The three-part series, held throughout November, will help students to learn and sharpen digital media skills for the competition, and for their own personal and professional development. The sessions are run by Brock experts on creating engaging videos and research storytelling.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/192669\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GRADflix 101<\/a> will kick off the three-part series Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. The online session will inform and answer questions participants have about the competition.<\/p>\n<p>The second session, <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/account\/create?returnUrl=\/event\/193297\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Using the Media to Amplify your Research Story<\/a>, takes place Wednesday, Nov. 17, with the third and final session, <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/account\/create?returnUrl=\/event\/193298\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Filmmaking in the Lab: Creating Engaging Videos from Start to Finish<\/a>, following on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Registration for all workshops is available through <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ExperienceBU<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Registration for GRADflix opens Wednesday, Nov. 10 on the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/graduate-studies\/student-development\/gradflix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">event web page<\/a>, with video submissions accepted online until Sunday, Jan. 9.<\/p>\n<p>Video submissions will be judged based on students\u2019 ability to communicate and conceptualize their research, creativity and visual impact along with technical quality.<\/p>\n<p>Four cash prizes are available ranging from $300 to $1,000.
