Anti-Muslim hate and Islamophobia will be at the centre of an upcoming webinar presented by Brock\u2019s Anti-Racism Task Force.<\/p>\n
Open to the Brock and wider Niagara community, \u201cReversing the Rise of Anti-Muslim Hate and Dismantling Islamophobia\u201d will take place Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. via Microsoft Teams. The online event will explore the causes of this religious-based intolerance and propose strategies for mitigating this kind of racism.<\/p>\n
The webinar will feature a 45-minute panel discussion between Leenat Jilani, Associate Lawyer at Kutty and Associates; Andre Basson, former Brock chaplain and Adjunct Professor of Medieval and Renaissance Studies; Usman Raja, Professor of Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources at Brock’s Goodman School of Business; and Samah Marei, a PhD student at the University of Toronto.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0panelists will\u00a0raise\u00a0awareness around the rising trend of hate crimes specifically targeting Muslims in Canada. They will also explore\u00a0what\u00a0survivors\u00a0can do when they are attacked\u00a0and what\u00a0concrete steps\u00a0Canadian\u00a0society\u00a0can take\u00a0to\u00a0curb\u00a0this\u00a0alarming\u00a0extremism.<\/p>\n
Following the discussion, there will be a 15-minute\u00a0Q&A with the audience.<\/p>\n
