{"id":74748,"date":"2021-10-19T14:28:32","date_gmt":"2021-10-19T18:28:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=74748"},"modified":"2021-10-19T14:28:32","modified_gmt":"2021-10-19T18:28:32","slug":"brock-event-to-discuss-what-sustainability-reporting-standards-mean-for-investors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2021\/10\/brock-event-to-discuss-what-sustainability-reporting-standards-mean-for-investors\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock event to discuss what sustainability reporting standards mean for investors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At a time when stakeholders are increasingly concerned about companies\u2019 business practices, corporations have been rapidly adopting the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) standards to report the impact they have on society and the environment.<\/p>\n<p>To discuss what this means for investors, the Goodman School of Business\u2019 CPA Ontario Centre for Public Policy and Innovation in Accounting will host a webinar next week to take a deep dive into environmental, social and governance reporting.<\/p>\n<p>The live event will take place Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 10 to 11 a.m. This session builds on the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2021\/05\/brock-event-to-lead-international-conversation-on-sustainability-reporting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">conversation started in May<\/a> on sustainability reporting standards that became Brock\u2019s largest-ever online event, with more than 1,800 participants viewing the discussion live.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStakeholders are increasingly holding corporations accountable for\u00a0sustainability\u00a0and social values,\u201d said Interim Centre Director Kareen Brown. \u201cThe\u00a0CPA Ontario Centre for Public Policy and Innovation in Accounting, together with the Goodman School,\u00a0is honoured to\u00a0foster\u00a0dialogue that demonstrates how these standards can help investors more effectively integrate environmental, social and governance data into their\u00a0decision-making process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event will be moderated by Goodman Accounting Professor Samir Trabelsi and feature Robert Hirth, Senior Managing Director of Proviti and Co-Vice Chair of the SASB Standards Board, and Neil Stewart, Value Reporting Foundation\u2019s New York-based Director of Corporate Outreach and the SASB Standards Board\u2019s Director of Corporate Outreach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur eminent panelists will focus on the latest developments in the fast-changing world of environmental, social and governance reporting for investors,\u201d Trabelsi said. \u201cWe will hear a briefing on the rapid corporate adoption of SASB Standards based on industry-specific, financially material environmental, social and governance issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The free event is open to the public and interested participants can <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/goodman\/faculty-research\/centres-institutes\/sasb-standards-webinar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">register here<\/a> to receive a link to the livestream.
