{"id":73942,"date":"2021-09-08T14:55:11","date_gmt":"2021-09-08T18:55:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=73942"},"modified":"2021-09-08T16:19:47","modified_gmt":"2021-09-08T20:19:47","slug":"brock-homecoming-to-feature-alumni-led-virtual-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2021\/09\/brock-homecoming-to-feature-alumni-led-virtual-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock Homecoming to feature alumni-led virtual events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This year\u2019s Brock University Homecoming celebrations will be hosted by the Brock community, for the Brock community.<\/p>\n<p>More than <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/homecoming\/speakers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">20 different speakers<\/a>, nearly all of them Brock alumni or faculty, will be leading <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/homecoming\/schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">online events and activities<\/a> on a variety of topics for all ages from Wednesday, Sept. 22 to Sunday, Sept. 26.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited to highlight extraordinary alumni with a variety of careers, talents and expertise, from all over,\u201d said Brock Alumni Officer Christine Richards. \u201cSession topics range from cryptocurrency and a guide to buying your first home to wine pairing, Funfetti cookie baking and learning how to make prohibition era-inspired cocktails. There is something for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many events are family friendly and most are free. Since all are virtual, participants can join from anywhere in the world. Events, which also include health and wellness activities, offer opportunities for social interaction, education and development. All Brock alumni, staff and faculty are invited to <a href=\"https:\/\/web.cvent.com\/event\/e4892642-87cd-467e-a1b4-2aab84442583\/register\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">register<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_73945\" style=\"width: 469px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73945\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-73945\" src=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Paint-Night-art.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"459\" height=\"326\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-73945\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A sample of the art that will be created during Paint Night, one of several Brock University Homecoming online event and activities happening later this month.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Visual Arts alumnus Joaquin Manay (BA \u201913) is leading a Paint Night session Friday, Sept. 24 at 6 and 8 p.m. that will guide participants of all ages and experiences through the process of painting Brock\u2019s famous Sakura cherry blossoms in front of the Schmon Tower. He\u2019s excited to reconnect with the Brock community by sharing the skills he developed while he was a student.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I remember pulling all-nighters painting away with some of my peers,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We would share ideas and just vibe with each other.
