For leaders, the key to coaching others is managing their own emotions, says a leading consultant in the field. Developing this skill will be the focus of a free webinar next Wednesday, July 28 at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n
Caren Burt, Principal at C Burt & Associates, will lead the session as part of the Business Breathers<\/a> series facilitated by Goodman Group, the Goodman School of Business\u2019 community-focused learning and development services provider.<\/p>\n \u201cEveryone can be a great coach,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s a learned skill and takes a little practice like everything else we learn.\u201d<\/p>\n The talk titled \u201cManage self to coach others\u201d will give participants insight into their own leadership skills and teach them how those skills align with coaching others.<\/p>\n \u201cLeaders are often focused on their own discomfort and\/or frustration when they enter into a challenging coaching conversation,\u201d Burt says. \u201cWhen the leader manages their emotions, biases and judgements they are better able to create a trusting relationship where employees can be honest and take accountability rather than a defensive stance.\u201d<\/p>\n The session will help participants: shift their perspective to have more productive conversations; demonstrate how to make coaching easier by talking less; and help improve conversation flow to focus on creative solutions.<\/p>\n Burt\u2019s practice specializes in leadership development, coaching, performance management, change management, strategic planning and facilitation. She is a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRL) and is a certified leadership coach through the Coaches Training Institute.<\/p>\n Everyone is welcome to attend the Business Breathers webinars.
