Incoming Goodman School of Business students gained early insight into the clubs and opportunities that await them this fall during a virtual clubs fair held last week.<\/p>\n
The inaugural Get Involved at Goodman event took place Thursday, July 8 on the Hopin digital platform and saw 74 incoming students interact with 32 student leaders. Each year, the Business Students\u2019 Association (BSA) and their associated student clubs provide more than 300 events and opportunities for students to get involved with.<\/p>\n
Organized by Cristina Greco, Goodman\u2019s Recruitment Co-ordinator, and Bill Huynh, a fourth-year Business Administration Co-op student and the BSA\u2019s Vice-President of Student Engagement, the online event was an opportunity for clubs to recruit members and network with students before they arrive on campus.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think this was a great introduction to the Goodman community and culture,\u201d Greco said. \u201cThe student representatives did a great job marketing their clubs and sharing all the great events and opportunities they provide other students. There was also a high level of engagement from incoming students, which was great to see.\u201d<\/p>\n
All nine BSA clubs had activities and presentations in their virtual booths.<\/p>\n
The event helped to ensure as many students as possible could get a taste of student life at Goodman, Huynh said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEver since I got involved at Goodman in my first year, it has completely changed my life,\u201d he said. \u201cI know the transition from high school to university can be terrifying. I hope this event allowed some of our incoming first-years to learn and connect with upper-year students, so that they have the resources to succeed in the classroom and the workplace.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event also included a networking session that enabled third- and fourth-year students to chat informally with incoming students.<\/p>\n
Incoming Accounting Co-op student Stephanie Biczok, from Mississauga, said getting first-hand insight into campus life was valuable.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was an amazing event for incoming first-years to attend to connect with current Goodman students and learn more about the clubs and associations that Goodman had to offer,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Nicolas Tessier, an incoming Bachelor of Business Administration Co-op student from Welland, said the session helped welcome him to the business school and introduced him to the opportunities available as his studies begin.<\/p>\n
\u201cTaking part in the Get Involved with Goodman event has opened my eyes to ways I can truly enhance my Goodman experience,\u201d Tessier said. \u201cI will 100 per cent be applying and putting myself out there within these clubs throughout my first year.\u201d<\/p>\n
