Imagine how much more difficult it is for children.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But today, in many communities, child victims and witnesses are being supported by a quiet, talented and empathetic group of workers \u2014 dogs.\u00a0Justice facility dogs, to be precise.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The idea of enlisting dogs\u2019 distinct skills and abilities is reflected in different kinds of canine care work. Specialized\u00a0service dogs perform life-changing and life-sustaining work around the clock, helping people with many kinds of disabilities.\u00a0Therapy dogs work part-time supporting people in hospitals, long-term care facilities and libraries.\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>American prosecutor Ellen O\u2019Neill-Stephens and veterinarian Celeste Walsen wanted to enlist highly trained and accredited service dogs to assist children within the justice system, so they co-founded the\u00a0Courthouse Dogs Foundation\u00a0in the United States in 2008.
