{"id":72527,"date":"2021-06-08T10:42:22","date_gmt":"2021-06-08T14:42:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=72527"},"modified":"2021-06-08T15:48:45","modified_gmt":"2021-06-08T19:48:45","slug":"goodmans-impact-highlighted-at-inaugural-state-of-the-school-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2021\/06\/goodmans-impact-highlighted-at-inaugural-state-of-the-school-event\/","title":{"rendered":"Goodman\u2019s impact highlighted at inaugural State of the School event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As a way to connect with and engage the Goodman community near and far during the pandemic, the business school hosted its inaugural State of the School event last week.<\/p>\n<p>The online event took place Wednesday, June 2 and featured Goodman Dean Andrew Gaudes in conversation with Mishka Balsom, CEO of the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce (GNCC). The pair were joined digitally by more than 80 community members.<\/p>\n<p>Balsom started the discussion by emphasizing the important role that both universities and business schools play as a local economic driver.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe students of today are our future workforce,\u201d she said, \u201cwhich effectively makes Goodman Business School an integral community partner in regional economic prosperity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The conversation covered how Goodman is contributing to the sustainability conversation; prioritizing equity, diversity and inclusion; has pivoted in the pandemic, responding to environmental shifts; and is preparing to respond to future challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Gaudes highlighted some of the School\u2019s recent successes, including being recognized as <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/09\/goodman-mba-ranks-first-in-canada-for-class-and-faculty-diversity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">No. 1 in Canada<\/a> for class and faculty diversity in QS\u2019s MBA 2021 MBA rankings, and covered some of the results of a <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2021\/03\/goodman-school-of-business-earns-prestigious-designation-for-contribution-to-economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recent BSIS report<\/a> that noted the significant contributions of the School to the local economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe as a business school and University have long been working towards creating a more equitable, diverse and inclusive environment,\u201d Gaudes said. \u201cWe\u2019ve given a high level of regard to make sure everyone has a voice.
