Members of the Brock community are invited to attend a virtual keynote speech from international author, speaker, professor and activist Loretta Ross on Saturday, March 13.<\/p>\n
Held from 2 to 3:15 p.m., Ross\u2019s talk, \u201cCalling in the Calling Out Culture,\u201d will be based on her work in the United States and around the world.<\/p>\n
Through a message of healing divisiveness and rebuilding a more compassionate culture, the Smith College Professor and host of the Dred Feminist podcast will encourage participants to hold each other accountable in the area of social justice, but to do so in a loving way.<\/p>\n
Hosted by Brock\u2019s Office of Human Rights and Equity (HRE), the online event is part of the virtual Gender and Sexual Violence Retreat taking place Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13.<\/p>\n
Jermaine Marshall, HRE\u2019s Gender and Sexual Violence Events and Volunteer Co-ordinator, said the keynote will be particularly impactful for students.<\/p>\n
\u201cLoretta\u2019s work is referenced in many courses and fields across campus,\u201d he said. \u201cThe conversation she’ll be facilitating relates quite heavily to the current sociopolitical climate students find themselves in.\u201d<\/p>\n
