{"id":70645,"date":"2021-02-22T10:44:14","date_gmt":"2021-02-22T15:44:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=70645"},"modified":"2021-03-06T20:20:49","modified_gmt":"2021-03-07T01:20:49","slug":"panel-to-discuss-resources-for-indigenous-youth-during-times-of-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2021\/02\/panel-to-discuss-resources-for-indigenous-youth-during-times-of-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"Panel to discuss resources for Indigenous youth during times of crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The final talk of the academic year in a series focused on anti-racism and Indigenous children will take place virtually Friday, Feb. 26.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning at noon, the hour-long event will be hosted by the Decolonization Working Group of the President\u2019s Advisory Committee on Human Rights, Equity and Decolonization (PACHRED), and will welcome guests from <a href=\"https:\/\/wemattercampaign.org\/what-is-we-matter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">We Matter<\/a>, an Indigenous youth-led organization that is dedicated to Indigenous youth support, hope and life promotion.<\/p>\n<p>Following previous panels that focused on <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/09\/community-invited-to-learn-about-residential-schools-on-orange-shirt-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the residential school system and its intergenerational impacts<\/a>, Brock\u2019s participation in the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/10\/panel-aims-to-continue-conversations-on-injustices-faced-by-indigenous-peoples\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">First Nations Family Caring Society\u2019s Ambearrister program<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/12\/decolonization-working-group-to-discuss-connection-between-land-food-and-child-well-being\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">food sustainability and well-being<\/a>, the final panel will focus on the high rates of suicide amongst Indigenous youth.<\/p>\n<p>Panel participants from We Matter will discuss their mission to acknowledge the need to assist and value the gifts they believe the Creator gave each person, while also honouring overall well-being in Indigenous children and youth by providing positive messages.
