{"id":70262,"date":"2021-01-28T12:22:32","date_gmt":"2021-01-28T17:22:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=70262"},"modified":"2021-01-28T16:30:37","modified_gmt":"2021-01-28T21:30:37","slug":"theatre-in-the-age-of-climate-change-the-focus-of-virtual-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2021\/01\/theatre-in-the-age-of-climate-change-the-focus-of-virtual-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Theatre in the age of climate change the focus of virtual events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock University\u2019s Department of Dramatic Arts (DART) and the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre (PAC) are continuing their partnership in 2021, offering online performances and virtual discussions exploring the intersection of performing arts and climate change in the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/miwsfpa\/walker-cultural-leaders-series\/#1538683040505-1ae9e041-983e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Walker Cultural Leaders Series<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Taking place from Friday, Feb. 12 to Sunday, Feb. 14, the event is convened by DART Professors David Fancy and Karen Fricker and is a continuation of a <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/miwsfpa\/dramatic-arts\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/DART-WCL-Media-Release-Oct-2020.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">series of events<\/a> presented in November 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing the success of our first round of collaborative events with the PAC last fall, we are looking forward to this continued focus on the relationship between performance and climate crisis,\u201d said Fricker.<\/p>\n<p>The second part of the series includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Three commissioned performances meant to inspire conversation and critical thought<\/li>\n<li>A live-streamed sharing by Kaha:wi Dance Theatre&#8217;s Artistic Director Santee Smith of the company&#8217;s new work in development called <em>Sk\u00e9n:nen<\/em><\/li>\n<li>A panel discussion entitled Honouring Balance in Times of Crisis and Change: Strength in Indigenous Women\u2019s Perspectives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Artists participating in the panel discussion include Audra Maloney, Diane Simon and Santee Smith, and Lyn Trudeau will moderate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are enthusiastic about the intersections between the Indigenous women\u2019s panel, responses to the climate crisis, and the moves towards Indigenization and decolonization at Brock,\u201d said Fancy.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the Walker Cultural Leaders Series, Brock commissioned 10 regional theatre artists to create short online presentations exploring the climate crisis in relation to any area of their interest.<\/p>\n<p>In this part of the series, commissioned artists explored a multitude of themes in relation to climate change including capitalism, consumerism, mental health and more.
