{"id":70060,"date":"2021-01-18T10:29:39","date_gmt":"2021-01-18T15:29:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=70060"},"modified":"2021-01-18T16:32:01","modified_gmt":"2021-01-18T21:32:01","slug":"innovative-writing-practices-at-centre-of-online-discussion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2021\/01\/innovative-writing-practices-at-centre-of-online-discussion\/","title":{"rendered":"Innovative writing practices at centre of online discussion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Brock community is invited to an online panel discussion focused on innovative writing practices and methodologies.<\/p>\n<p>Held Thursday, Jan. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m., the virtual event is <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/education\/programs\/graduate-programs\/joint-phd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the second in a series of discussions<\/a> hosted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/education\/programs\/graduate-programs\/joint-phd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joint PhD in Educational Studies<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/11\/phd-in-educational-studies-to-mark-20-years-with-virtual-panel-discussions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mark the program\u2019s 20th anniversary<\/a>. The overall theme of the series is Leading in Times of Change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMethodological innovation is important for generating new theoretical insights; thus, it is perhaps not surprising that contemporary researchers highlight unconventional methods and innovative writing practices as effective strategies,\u201d said Rakha Zabin, doctoral student and a member of the organizing committee.<\/p>\n<p>The evening will include a\u202fvirtual panel discussion by faculty and doctoral students in the program, followed by small breakout group discussions.<\/p>\n<p>The Program Committee hopes participants will leave the event feeling inspired and supported by sharing knowledge and building collegial networks between faculty, alumni and doctoral students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHistorically, research methods and writing approaches have not reflected the reality of many people. By questioning and challenging the status quo, it may be possible to disrupt where needed, engage a more inclusive audience and support opportunities for success to all,\u201d said Karen Julien, doctoral candidate, organizing committee member and Co-Chair of the Education Graduate Student Society.<\/p>\n<p>The theme of the discussion series, Leading in Times of Change<em>,<\/em> was chosen to help participants respond to issues in changing times including social injustice and changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change.<\/p>\n<p>To register for the panel discussions, <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/education\/programs\/graduate-programs\/joint-phd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">visit the Joint PhD web page<\/a>.
