{"id":69980,"date":"2021-01-13T11:36:31","date_gmt":"2021-01-13T16:36:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=69980"},"modified":"2021-01-13T16:16:15","modified_gmt":"2021-01-13T21:16:15","slug":"town-hall-to-focus-on-impact-of-anti-black-racism-on-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2021\/01\/town-hall-to-focus-on-impact-of-anti-black-racism-on-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Town Hall to focus on impact of anti-Black racism on students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The systemic, cultural and social impacts of anti-Black racism on Black-identified Brock students will be the focus of a virtual Black Town Hall on Thursday, Jan. 14.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Black-identified Brock students are invited to join Crystal Mark, Community Developer, Anti-Oppression Advocate and Equity Educator, online from 1 to 3 p.m. for \u2018Delving Deeper: Anti-Black Racism Town Hall for Black Students at Brock.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Mark will facilitate a discussion on how racism has impacted Brock students on and off campus, and how the University can implement progressive changes to improve their experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Mark\u2019s work concentrates on anti-oppression, equity, diversity and inclusion-focused mindsets. For the past 20 years, she has been committed to radical pedagogical practice that acknowledges the harm and continued impact on Indigenous and Black people through the Transatlantic slave trade.<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The event is a joint venture between Brock\u2019s Human Rights and Equity (HRE) Anti-Racism department, Brock Student Justice Centre and Brock University Students\u2019 Union. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Students who participate in the event will earn co-curricular credit in the <\/span><span class=\"Hyperlink0\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/experiencebu\/co-curriculum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Campus-Wide Co-Curriculum<\/a><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">.
