{"id":69569,"date":"2020-12-04T14:15:24","date_gmt":"2020-12-04T19:15:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=69569"},"modified":"2020-12-11T10:53:23","modified_gmt":"2020-12-11T15:53:23","slug":"new-app-offers-round-the-clock-mental-health-supports-for-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/12\/new-app-offers-round-the-clock-mental-health-supports-for-students\/","title":{"rendered":"New app offers round-the-clock mental health supports for students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock\u2019s ongoing commitment to the mental health of its students will be further enhanced with the introduction of the new My Student Support Program App.<\/p>\n<p>Launched Dec. 1 as a one-year pilot project with Morneau Sheppell, the app offers real-time, 24-7 confidential telephone and text chat counselling support for the Brock student population.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Pennisi, Director of Brock\u2019s Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre, said the app\u2019s round-the-clock support is needed as students continue to adjust to learning online.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the transition to an online environment, we are concerned about students connecting to mental health supports when they need them,\u201d she said. \u201cOur current data from Morneau Shepell reveals that about 40 per cent of students who call for an appointment call after business hours.
