{"id":69400,"date":"2020-11-27T13:40:24","date_gmt":"2020-11-27T18:40:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=69400"},"modified":"2020-11-27T13:46:38","modified_gmt":"2020-11-27T18:46:38","slug":"brocks-ccovi-gets-funding-boost-for-cuvee-2020-online-experience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/11\/brocks-ccovi-gets-funding-boost-for-cuvee-2020-online-experience\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock\u2019s CCOVI gets funding boost for Cuv\u00e9e 2020 Online Experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/cuvee.ca\/online\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cuv\u00e9e 2020 Online Experience<\/a> has received $11,000 in funding support from the provincial government\u2019s Celebrate Ontario program.<\/p>\n<p>Organized by Brock University\u2019s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI), the online experience was developed to allow the annual showcase of high-quality Ontario VQA wines and local cuisine to safely take place in the wake of COVID-19. As they were unable to host the in-person gala earlier this year, organizers quickly worked to launch an online platform featuring unique video content from local winemakers, an online musical performance and the opportunity to purchase VQA wines and takeaway dishes to enjoy at home.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_69402\" style=\"width: 553px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-69402\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-69402\" src=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/ON-POS-LOGO-RGB-copy-1050x420.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"543\" height=\"217\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-69402\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Government of Ontario provided funding to support the Cuv\u00e9e 2020 Online Experience.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In 2020, the Celebrate Ontario grant supported festival and event organizers with events that had to be rescheduled, postponed or reprogrammed in light of the pandemic. Cuv\u00e9e gained its support due to its ability to quickly pivot and provide both a unique experience for its guests, as well as a platform to showcase and support the grape and wine industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCelebrate Ontario is one way this government is helping sustain festivals and events so they can continue to contribute to vibrant communities,\u201d says Hon. Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries. \u201cFestivals and events are important parts of Ontario\u2019s double bottom line, contributing to our cultural fabric and pride of place while supporting economic growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cuv\u00e9e Manager Barb Tatarnic says organizers are grateful for this support from the Ontario Government, as it solidifies the important role that events like Cuv\u00e9e play in supporting students, the grape and wine industry, and the provincial economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis funding supported us in the development of a fun and innovative platform to safely celebrate excellence in VQA winemaking in the face of the unprecedented challenges presented by COVID-19,\u201d she says. \u201cEvery year, Cuv\u00e9e highlights the talents of our amazing grape and wine community. In 2020, it also showcased that industry\u2019s extraordinary capacity for passion, resilience and fortitude, while giving us the ability to connect with one another \u2014 even if only virtually \u2014 which is so important right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Forty-eight wineries, 12 culinary partners and headline band Jonesy came together to participate in the Online Experience.
