Klinger, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Te Kura Toi Tangata Division of Education and Professor of Measurement, Assessment and Evaluation at University of Waikato, had a piece published in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/university-admissions-tests-like-the-sat-are-under-scrutiny-especially-in-the-age-of-covid-19-142963\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Conversation<\/a><\/em> about the potential end of university admissions testing in the United States and elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>They write:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMany Grade 12 high school students are now looking ahead to post-secondary studies next fall. Those wishing to attend universities in the United States will see that the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the growing shift to test-optional university admissions policies \u2014\u00a0or scrapping entrance tests altogether.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Due to COVID-19,\u00a0many U.S. universities,\u00a0including Yale, Cornell, Columbia and the University of Pennsylvania\u00a0have announced they won\u2019t require applicants for fall 2021 to write either the SAT or ACT.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But even before the pandemic, entrance examinations were under scrutiny. The\u00a0University of California\u00a0voted in May to phase out\u00a0both the SAT\u00a0and\u00a0the ACT\u00a0as\u00a0requirements for university admissions, largely due to concerns over racial and cultural bias.
