{"id":68433,"date":"2020-10-06T11:02:53","date_gmt":"2020-10-06T15:02:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=68433"},"modified":"2020-10-06T11:04:07","modified_gmt":"2020-10-06T15:04:07","slug":"registration-open-for-emotional-intelligence-certificate-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/10\/registration-open-for-emotional-intelligence-certificate-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Registration open for emotional intelligence certificate program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today\u2019s leaders not only need to demonstrate their industry expertise and strategic thinking, they also need to exhibit emotional resiliency, empathy and compassion to earn employees\u2019 confidence.<\/p>\n<p>An upcoming two-day professional development certification program offered by Brock University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/goodman-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Goodman Group<\/a> will discuss the role of emotional intelligence in effective leadership and how to build more productive relationships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmotional intelligence starts with how we self-manage, self-regulate and become aware of our own emotions,\u201d says Lesley Calvin, a certified emotional intelligence specialist and leadership development coach and trainer who will be teaching the online seminars. \u201cEmotional intelligence is especially important in leadership positions, because in addition to managing their own stress and recognizing when they might be consciously or unconsciously emotionally reactive, leaders also need to support and model resilience and optimism for their team and organization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/goodman-group\/professional-development\/emotional-intelligence-eq\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">emotional intelligence program<\/a> will take place online Thursday, Nov. 19 and Friday, Nov. 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. Participants will receive an accredited certificate upon completion.<\/p>\n<p>Calvin says training in emotional intelligence is especially beneficial when employees are experiencing added stressors and emotions are running high.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pandemic has brought about constant change and pressure related to working from home, decreasing budgets and increasing workloads,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>A certified eSpeaker, Calvin isn\u2019t new to teaching online and plans to employ a variety of dynamic methods in her facilitation of the program, including breakout sessions, whiteboarding, polls and small group Q&amp;A discussions.<\/p>\n<p>Participants will learn about the different competencies related to emotional intelligence, such as self-regard, empathy, flexibility, interpersonal relations and healthy assertiveness, as well as how to identify areas in which they excel or are challenged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to make sure the concepts I teach are landing, and that participants are comfortable moving forward with a framework and applying solutions to their real-life work situations,\u201d Calvin says.<\/p>\n<p>The cost of the emotional intelligence program is $699 plus HST.
