Like so many other big events on the post-secondary calendar this year, Brock University\u2019s Homecoming Weekend will have a whole new approach.<\/p>\n
Rather than a typical weekend of in-person events, celebrations and reunions, Brock will kick off its Virtual Homecoming Launch with the theme of \u2018keeping the tradition alive, no matter where you are in the world.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cWhere Homecoming has been confined to a single weekend in the past, this year\u2019s Homecoming Weekend will act as a launching pad for continued celebrations and programming throughout the rest of the year,\u201d said Terry Cockerline, Director, Alumni Relations.<\/p>\n
The celebration will get started Friday, Sept. 18 with the unveiling of a Steel Blade Classic tribute website, which will feature highlights from the annual hockey game over the years, history about the Classic, photo galleries and more. The website will become accessible through the Brock Homecoming<\/a> website on Friday.<\/p>\n At 7 p.m., the tribute website will host the screening of a video looking back at the 2018 Steel Blade Classic \u2014 when a record crowd watched Brock beat the Guelph Gryphons at the Meridian Centre in downtown St. Catharines. The highlight video features commentary from head coach Marty Williamson, current player Adam Berg and former player Skylar Pacheco.<\/p>\n On Saturday, Sept. 19, the flagship Virtual Alumni Recognition Reception will launch as a website featuring the annual alumni awards with videos of each Dean recognizing their Distinguished Faculty Graduate Award recipients and acceptance speeches for the winners.<\/p>\n The site will also include remarks from Brock President Gervan Fearon, Brock University Alumni Association (BUAA) President Greg Plata, Director of Alumni Relations Terry Cockerline and BUAA Recognition of Excellence Committee Chair Allie Hughes.<\/p>\n At 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, alumni are invited to take part in live virtual campus tours. Spaces are limited and alumni are asked to register in advance here.<\/a><\/p>\n Saturday will highlight Brock\u2019s partnership with the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival<\/a>, with the University serving as title sponsor of the Centre Stage Saturdays concert being livestreamed from 6 to 10 p.m. Brock Oenology and Viticulture alumni working in the wine industry will be featured throughout the broadcast.<\/p>\n Brock alumni are encouraged to take part in a reunion photo contest being unveiled this weekend on the website to celebrate their one-, five-, 10-, 25- and 50-year anniversary milestones. The contest will run until Nov. 16 and anyone who takes part will be entered into a draw to win a variety of prizes.<\/p>\n Badgers celebrating their silver (25-year) and golden (50-year) anniversaries with Brock are encouraged to request their cameo pins on the Homecoming website<\/a>.<\/p>\n
