{"id":67148,"date":"2020-07-20T08:56:26","date_gmt":"2020-07-20T12:56:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=67148"},"modified":"2020-07-21T10:34:38","modified_gmt":"2020-07-21T14:34:38","slug":"free-webinar-will-examine-effects-of-coronavirus-on-board-of-directors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/07\/free-webinar-will-examine-effects-of-coronavirus-on-board-of-directors\/","title":{"rendered":"Free webinar will examine effects of coronavirus on boards of directors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The coronavirus has impacted many aspects of corporate operations, including boards of directors.\u00a0It remains unclear how the developing global health pandemic will affect board structure, characteristics, composition and process.<\/p>\n<p>An upcoming webinar will discuss best practices boards of directors could adopt to respond to the challenges and risks posed by the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>Samir Trabelsi, Professor of Accounting and Governance with the Goodman School of Business at Brock University, will present on \u2018Boards in the aftermath of coronavirus\u2019 Wednesday, July 22 at 11 a.m. as part of the next Business Breathers webinar.<\/p>\n<p>The free weekly webinar series is facilitated by the Goodman School of Businesses\u2019 Goodman Group and features 30 minutes of live industry and faculty expert-led discussions, followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer period. Topics focus on leadership, management and innovation, as well as the financial and social impacts of trending topics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the aftermath of the coronavirus, boards may seek new expertise, perhaps from epidemiologists and disease modelers, to advise on risk management and internal control,\u201d says Trabelsi, whose research interests include corporate governance, risk management, corruption and sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe role of the board and its governance responsibilities will need to be reexamined. Performance evaluation and external auditing will be especially important to understand the effectiveness of the board, its committees, individual board members and executive management.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Everyone is welcome to attend Business Breathers webinars.
