{"id":67128,"date":"2020-07-15T11:10:01","date_gmt":"2020-07-15T15:10:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=67128"},"modified":"2020-07-15T15:58:51","modified_gmt":"2020-07-15T19:58:51","slug":"former-badgers-goalie-signs-with-nhls-golden-knights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/07\/former-badgers-goalie-signs-with-nhls-golden-knights\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Badgers goalie signs with NHL\u2019s Golden Knights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Logan Thompson\u2019s time with the Brock Badgers may have been brief, but he credits the University with playing a pivotal role in him landing a contract with the National Hockey League\u2019s Vegas Golden Knights this week.<\/p>\n<p>The 23-year-old Calgary native signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the NHL franchise Monday, July 13.<a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/VGK1920_Thompson_Signing_TW.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-67129\" src=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/VGK1920_Thompson_Signing_TW.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"532\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Speaking from a hotel room in Las Vegas where he\u2019s quarantining before starting to workout at the Golden Knights facilities, Thompson said the 2018-19 season he spent as a goaltender for the Brock Badgers was a turning point in his career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrock gave me a second opportunity and I\u2019m really grateful for them allowing me to come and play another season,\u201d he said. \u201cThey helped me get back on my feet. From there, things fell into place and I worked my way up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thompson had played four years in the Western Hockey League, winning a league championship in the 2015-16 season with the Brandon Wheat Kings. But when his professional hockey dream appeared to stall, he looked for a team in the U SPORTS hockey system that would give him a platform to prove himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter the WHL, I wanted to go somewhere where I would get a lot of playing time and an opportunity to grow,\u201d Thompson said. \u201cThat\u2019s why I went to Brock.
