Although it&#8217;s too early to tell exactly what this impact will be, implications for corporate governance practices and standards are already emerging.<\/p>\n<p>Samir Trabelsi, Accounting and Governance Professor with the Goodman School of Business at Brock University, will present on \u2018COVID-19: Good governance in crisis or a good crisis for governance?\u2019 Wednesday, June 24 at 11 a.m. as part of the next Business Breathers\u00a0webinar.<\/p>\n<p>The free weekly webinar series is facilitated by the Goodman School of Business\u2019 Goodman Group\u00a0and features 30 minutes of live industry and faculty expert-led discussions, followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer period. Topics focus on leadership, management and innovation, as well as the financial and social impacts of trending topics.<\/p>\n<p>Trabelsi will outline several corporate governance issues as companies and not-for-profit organizations respond to the challenges and risks posed by the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoard of directors always think about the bottom line, but now investors are asking companies to not only gain value but create sustainable value,\u201d he said. &#8220;Governance is shifting from a shareholder perspective to a stakeholder approach. From these microeconomic observations, we can see that COVID-19 is an opportunity to redefine a global governance model. I propose a new model for our new normal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trabelsi has taught courses in corporate governance, research methodology and external reporting. His research interests include corporate governance, sustainability, corruption, risk management and <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/05\/goodman-profs-research-doesnt-whitewash-corporate-greenwashing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">greenwashing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Interested participants are asked to <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/goodman-group\/business-breathers-with-goodmans-best-live-webinars-registration-form\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">register online<\/a>.
