{"id":66485,"date":"2020-06-18T14:50:29","date_gmt":"2020-06-18T18:50:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=66485"},"modified":"2020-06-18T21:53:08","modified_gmt":"2020-06-19T01:53:08","slug":"brock-university-awarded-2-5-million-in-nserc-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/06\/brock-university-awarded-2-5-million-in-nserc-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock University awarded $2.5 million in NSERC funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock University researchers have been awarded $2.5 million in funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).<\/p>\n<p>Thirteen researchers received funding from the Discovery Grants program for $1.7 million. \u00a0Funds were also granted for three teams to purchase lab equipment through the Research Tools and Instruments program, for $383,178.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, nine graduate students were awarded $423,500 in graduate student awards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re grateful for NSERC\u2019s long-standing support for the work of our researchers,\u201d said Associate Vice-President, Research Michelle McGinn. \u201cThis funding enables our scientists to continue making cutting-edge discoveries in the areas of human health, climate change, animal physiology, and wine quality, to name just a few.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the recipients is Associate Professor of Biology Jeff Stuart, who will use his grant to improve the media that scientists use to research cells.
