{"id":66075,"date":"2020-05-28T13:13:02","date_gmt":"2020-05-28T17:13:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=66075"},"modified":"2020-05-29T14:07:32","modified_gmt":"2020-05-29T18:07:32","slug":"experiential-education-resources-available-for-online-classes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/05\/experiential-education-resources-available-for-online-classes\/","title":{"rendered":"Experiential education resources available for online classes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The shift to online learning has not stopped Brock University from delivering life-changing experiential education opportunities in every Faculty, but it has led to the creation of some new resources.<\/p>\n<p>With all Spring and Summer Term courses taking place online, the Experiential Education (EE) team took quick action to ensure instructors can continue to incorporate the experiential learning components that have made Brock University a leader in this area.\u00a0To do this, the team developed a section of the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/ccee\/experiential-education\/faculty-guidebook\/taking-experiential-learning-online\/#1588799482784-9be6efea-b052\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Faculty Guidebook on Experiential Education<\/a> centred around bringing experiential learning online.<\/p>\n<p>Sandy Howe, Brock\u2019s Associate Director of Experiential Education, said the diverse resources being offered cater to many different courses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are curated resources, with some ready to be plugged into courses right away and others providing great frameworks and templates around what high-quality experiential course components could look like online,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The mixture of simulations, virtual field experiences, and service and community engaged learning are available alongside crowd-sourced resource collections to showcase EE\u2019s ability to bring an array of experiential outcomes to any department.<\/p>\n<p>The resources provide helpful hints for an array of experiential learning that ranges from virtual microscope exercises and national park tours to state-of-the-art marketing and human resources simulations.<\/p>\n<p>Referencing examples of new online experiential opportunities in <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/05\/online-learning-brings-new-opportunities-for-students\/?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=Daily%20The%20Brock%20News&amp;utm_content=Daily%20The%20Brock%20News+CID_c70818dddf58b4cae105f9b08e488d4a&amp;utm_source=Campaign%20Monitor%20MARCOM&amp;utm_term=Online%20learning%20brings%20new%20opportunities%20for%20students\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dramatic Arts<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/05\/virtual-memberships-available-as-students-help-brock-niagara-centre-for-health-and-well-being-expand-offerings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kinesiology<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/04\/goodman-students-adapt-quickly-as-course-content-moves-online\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Goodman School of Business<\/a>, Howe said she hopes more instructors will \u00a0access the new resources and reach out for the expertise of the University\u2019s EE co-ordinators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to keep the conversation going as a campus around experiential learning,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019ve come this far and experiential learning is a critical piece of the student experience we offer.\u00a0We have the chance now to find innovative ways of keeping students engaged in their new learning world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Howe said willingness from every Faculty to continually try new EE opportunities is what has made Brock the envy of other post-secondary institutions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese new additions to the website are great because Brock is a leader in experiential education,&#8221; she said. &#8220;We are always looked to for best practices, resources and new ways of doing things. Part of this comes with not being afraid to try.
