{"id":65561,"date":"2020-04-29T09:11:01","date_gmt":"2020-04-29T13:11:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=65561"},"modified":"2020-04-29T09:11:01","modified_gmt":"2020-04-29T13:11:01","slug":"future-brock-students-encouraged-to-apply-for-penfinancial-scholarships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/04\/future-brock-students-encouraged-to-apply-for-penfinancial-scholarships\/","title":{"rendered":"Future Brock students encouraged to apply for PenFinancial scholarships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">PenFinancial Credit Union will be awarding a total of $10,000 worth of scholarships to students headed to Brock University or Niagara College this September.<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The <i>Truly Local Video Scholarship Contest <\/i>will be supporting Niagara-based students that have been financially impacted by COVID-19.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Eligible students who are graduating from a Niagara area secondary school should submit a two-minute video outlining how they have been financially impacted from COVID-19 and how the pandemic has changed their thoughts on the importance of community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Entries will be judged based on creativity, passion and overall appeal. Judges will narrow down the entries to a top five and then the public will be invited to vote on their favourite candidate. The winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship, followed by $3,000 for second place and $2,000 for third. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Brock University President <\/span><span lang=\"NL\">Gervan Fearon<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">, along with District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) Education Foundation Executive Director Laura Byers, Niagara College President Sean Kennedy, Niagara Catholic District School Board (NCDSB) Communications Officer Jennifer Pellegrini and PenFinancial CEO Ken Janzen will be judging the video competition. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The <i>Truly Local Video Scholarship Contest<\/i> is a part of PenFinancial Credit Union\u2019s bigger initiative <i>Truly Local Commitment <\/i>to Niagara, which is a pledge to support the local community and economy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Submissions will be accepted until Friday, May 29.
