The Brock University Senate approved new options to give students greater choice on how grades will be presented on transcripts for any course affected by the COVID-19 disruption. Students will have three different options to choose from regarding their final grades.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/04\/new-options-for-final-grades-provide-students-with-choices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">To review the options, read the full story in The Brock News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brock further limits access to University buildings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Effective at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 3, access points to Brock University buildings will be reduced as the institution moves to further discourage non-essential visits and reduce the frequency of people leaving their homes and travelling through the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The new protocols apply to all Brock academic facilities at the main campus and at the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts (MIWSFPA) in downtown St. Catharines. (Brock\u2019s Hamilton Campus remains closed and is not accessible.)<\/p>\n<p>Swipe-card access through exterior entrances is being suspended. All visitors will need to check in and check out with Campus Security at designated entrances.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/04\/brock-limits-access-to-university-buildings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Read the full story in The Brock News.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quality time with family is key amid COVID-19, says Brock researcher<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dawn Trussell, Associate Professor of Sport Management, says the COVID-19 pandemic is an opportunity to strengthen familial bonds and create a sense of unity. She suggests families set a structured schedule and rethink recreation and sport to create stability and alleviate stress.<\/p>\n<p>She recommends planning low-cost, home-based leisure activities that align with all family members\u2019 individual interests like board games, sports in the backyard or reading together.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/04\/quality-time-structure-important-for-family-amidst-covid-19-says-brock-researcher\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Read the full story on The Brock News.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Financial Services working to prepare for fiscal year-end<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2019-20 fiscal year ends on Thursday, April 30.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The financial close process will continue with due dates similar to prior years, noting that much of our work is accommodated remotely by cloud-operated financial and human resource systems.<\/p>\n<p>Faculty and staff are encouraged to review the important fiscal year-end information and key dates found on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.sharepoint.com\/Financial-Services\/SitePages\/Welcome.aspx?csf=1&amp;e=wxYSSU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Financial Services OneBrock site<\/a>, which includes deadlines for information to be received by the Office of Financial Services or entered into Workday in order to allow time to process all transactions for fiscal year-end cut-off.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Central Receiving and Mail Services<\/strong> remain open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you\u2019re expecting any shipments of goods purchased on a Brock Visa Purchasing Card or Purchase Order, please contact Kevin Lawr at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:mailto:klawr@brocku.ca\">klawr@brocku.ca<\/a> to verify goods have been received so that you can create receipts or expense reports in Workday. These can be processed in the system for year-end.<\/p>\n<p>The Financial Services team is working remotely and available to answer questions via email.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Brock ITS offers\u00a0employees\u00a0improved option for remote connectivity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Due to increased usage from employees working from home, Brock has encountered capacity problems with Brock&#8217;s virtual private network (VPN) service, causing slow performance or an inability to connect.<\/p>\n<p>To alleviate these issues,\u00a0Brock ITS has deployed a more effective solution for remote connectivity, allowing access directly to Windows-based\u00a0office computers without the need for VPN.\u00a0These services are for staff and faculty use.<\/p>\n<p>NOTE: VPN continues to be required for users accessing Mac-based office computers. For more information, please refer to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.sharepoint.com\/information-technology\/SitePages\/Working-Remotely.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Working Remotely<\/a>\u00a0page on the ITS SharePoint site.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re already using Remote Desktop over VPN, you\u2019re configured to use this new service\u00a0and can enable\u00a0it\u00a0by following the instructions in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.sharepoint.com\/information-technology\/Documents\/RemoteAccessJobAids\/Remote%20Access%20-%20Using%20Remote%20Desktop.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Using Remote Desktop job aid found on the ITS SharePoint site<\/a>. If not,\u00a0you will need to request access.\u00a0Please visit the ITS SharePoint site and review\u00a0the\u00a0job aids\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.sharepoint.com\/information-technology\/Documents\/RemoteAccessJobAids\/Remote%20Access%20-%20Requesting%20Access%20For%20Remote%20Desktop.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Requesting Access For Remote Desktop<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.sharepoint.com\/information-technology\/Documents\/RemoteAccessJobAids\/Remote%20Access%20-%20Using%20Remote%20Desktop.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Using Remote Desktop<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone still using VPN for other services, such as accessing shared drives and other uses, should contact the\u00a0IT Help Desk at x4357, or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/information-technology\/helpdesk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">submit a ticket online<\/a>\u00a0so they can assist you with the right solution.\u00a0VPN is to be used for critical access.<\/p>\n<p>If you are able to migrate documents to OneDrive and\/or SharePoint, it may eliminate the need for either\u00a0of these\u00a0solutions.\u00a0Please see the\u00a0job\u00a0aid\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.sharepoint.com\/information-technology\/Documents\/RemoteAccessJobAids\/Remote%20Access%20-%20Working%20With%20OneDrive.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Working\u00a0with OneDrive<\/a>\u00a0on the ITS SharePoint\u00a0site.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>IT Help Desk<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The IT Help Desk located in the Computer Commons is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and closed on weekends.\u00a0Remote support, which had been available from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Friday, is being expanded to include weekends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Remote support is available to faculty, staff, students and the rest of the Brock community.<\/p>\n<p>Please note, remote support will be extended to 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 to support the Brock community during the only weekend day when online exams are being be held.<\/p>\n<p>Questions can be directed to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:ithelp@brocku.ca\">ithelp@brocku.ca<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Online fitness classes now available to Brock community <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Brock Recreation is now hosting daily online fitness classes through its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/brockrecreation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Instagram account<\/a>. Workouts run between 30 and 45 minutes and classes offered include flow yoga, kickboxing and hatha yoga. The Recreation team will be adding more classes throughout April to help keep the University community active.
