Indigenous mascots<\/a> and social activism, will return to Brock in the fall to deliver his Fulbright lecture and plans to return for future conferences. He is also working with two graduate students as a member of their thesis committees.<\/p>\n\u201cThe pandemic hasn\u2019t changed the ends or anticipated \u2018products\u2019 of my research plans, but it has certainly forced me to recalibrate the way I\u2019m moving towards my research goals,\u201d says Black.<\/p>\n
While he will continue his research from home in North Carolina, Black emphasises the importance of sharing physical space and time with community to his research.<\/p>\n
\u201cA Fulbright is about immersive experiences,\u201d he says. \u201cHaving conversations with Indigenous communities is enriched through direct conversations where truths can be shared and stories can be joined.\u201d<\/p>\n
Black is confident there are still positive things to come.<\/p>\n
\u201cI cannot forget that the past two and a half months at Brock have been life changing,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n
During his short stay at Brock, Black was interviewed on CBC radio, gave guest lectures at several different universities, participated in Brock\u2019s Crossing Borders conference and connected with activists and Indigenous groups in Niagara, Ottawa, and Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n
Even though his Fulbright experience has come to an abrupt end, Black will be staying in touch with his new friends and colleagues at Brock.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
