Members of the Brock University community are invited to don their finest pink clothing on Wednesday, Feb. 26 in support of a long-running anti-bullying initiative.<\/p>\n
For the 10th consecutive year, Brock\u2019s Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF – District 35) will lead Pink Shirt Day on campus, sporting custom pink shirts from the CKNW Kids Fund, which raises awareness of the issue of bullying as well as funds to support programs that foster healthy self-esteem.<\/p>\n
OSSTF District 35 President Alison Rothwell said the purchase of 100 shirts represents a commitment by members to stand up to bullying whenever it occurs.<\/p>\n
\u201cBullying comes in many forms and can affect everyone in our community and beyond,\u201d she said. \u201cThough we are wearing pink shirts today, our OSSTF team wants to remind everyone that it\u2019s important each day to care for those around us while being kind and respectful.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition to the shirts being worn by Brock OSSTF members and the pink lights shining from Schmon Tower in the evening, Rothwell hopes others in the Brock community will wear an item of pink clothing to show their support.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe more people we can get wearing pink, the better,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s an inclusive initiative that goes right across the country and around the world and we are proud to have Brock serve as a safe place for anyone who has encountered bullying.\u201d<\/p>\n
