For others, however, it can mean eating the wrong type of food.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThe modern move to processed food brings hunger in the form of malnutrition,\u201d said <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Liette<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Vasseur, Brock University\u2019s <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Chair<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> on Community Sustainability: From Local to Global<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, who is moderating an upcoming panel to increase awareness about hunger in Canada. \u201cFor many Indigenous communities, for example, eating less of the traditional foods they are accusto<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">med to is challenging their identity and culture, and affecting their health and nutrition.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Food systems within Indigenous communities is one of several topics being discussed at a Zero Hunger discussion on Monday, Feb. 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at GLN-B 118 in the International Centre. The brown bag lunch is a new forum series dedicated to finding solutions for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/sustainabledevelopmentgoals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">UNESCO\u2019s 17 Sustainable Development Goals<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cSome people think hunger is an international problem \u2014 that Canada doesn&#8217;t have any hungry people,\u201d said Vasseur. \u201cWe know this is false. The increasing demand on food banks alone is proof that Canadians are going hungry. The Zero Hunger discussion will address food insecurity in Canada and offer some solutions.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The talk will feature four panelists who each bring a different perspective:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Leela <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">MadhavaRau<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, Director, Human Rights and Equity, will speak about human rights and social justice as it relates to hunger<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ana <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sanchez, Professor, Health Sciences, will discuss the <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">importance of public health and food banks<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Charlotte <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Henay<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, Lecturer, Women&#8217;s and Gender Studies, will share examples of how Hurricane Dorian has affected the Bahamas\u2019 food supply<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Adrianne Lickers Xavier, PhD candidate at Royal Roads University and Indigenous Studies Instructor at McMaster University, will discuss her involvement as a driving force behind the Six Nations food security <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">initiative, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Our Sustenance<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">No RSVP is required to attend the event.
