Modified video and audio content has become easier to create and increasingly more believable, which is a dangerous combination.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Jan. 31, Associate Professor Jan Kietzmann from the University of Victoria’s Gustavson School of Business will deliver a presentation based on his recent article \u201cDeepfakes: Trick or treat?<\/a>\u201d as part of the Goodman School of Business\u2019 Luncheon Speaker Series<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Deepfakes, according to Kietzmann, are deceptive content that uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to modify audio or visual elements.<\/p>\n

Kietzmann is currently working on research projects on topics such as social media, artificial intelligence, crowdsourcing, user-generated content, gamification and sharing economies. Kietzmann is perhaps best known for his award-winning 2011 article \u201cSocial media? Get serious! Understanding the functional building blocks of social media.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

The Goodman Speaker Series provides an informal opportunity to listen and discuss recent advances in research, teaching and practices with international business colleagues.<\/p>\n

His talk will run from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in Sankey Chambers. Goodman faculty, staff and students are invited to attend.
