{"id":63536,"date":"2020-01-27T15:56:21","date_gmt":"2020-01-27T20:56:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=63536"},"modified":"2020-01-27T20:33:40","modified_gmt":"2020-01-28T01:33:40","slug":"new-professional-development-program-trains-niagara-health-leaders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/01\/new-professional-development-program-trains-niagara-health-leaders\/","title":{"rendered":"New professional development program trains Niagara health leaders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A custom-designed program for Niagara\u2019s mental health leaders is set to see its first round of graduates this week.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership between Pathstone Mental Health and Brock University\u2019s Goodman School of Business has seen 27 Pathstone employees complete a 12-week professional development program that focused on key aspects of strategic planning, change management, leadership, performance management, communication and teamwork in the context of the mental health sector.<\/p>\n<p>Developed by <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/goodman-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Goodman Group\u2019s<\/a> Professional Development Office, the Healthcare Business Management Certificate was specially curated to support Pathstone\u2019s unique needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were proud to develop and deliver this program that takes a transdisciplinary approach to management development and supports the wonderful work that Pathstone is doing in our community,\u201d said Goodman Group Director Abdul Rahimi.<\/p>\n<p>The program builds on the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2019\/03\/pathstone-and-brock-working-to-provide-improved-understanding-of-childhood-mental-health-issues\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">partnership between Brock and Pathstone<\/a> established last year with a memorandum of understanding between the two. For Pathstone CEO Shaun Baylis, the program reflects the organization\u2019s collaborative and consensus building approach to leadership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important that you cultivate leadership development for successful planning to ensure that we are following our guiding principles to create a centre of excellence,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The program\u2019s graduation ceremony will take place Wednesday, Jan. 29 on Bell Let\u2019s Talk Day at Pathstone\u2019s Branscombe Mental Health Centre in St. Catharines.<\/p>\n<p>Bill Helmeczi, Pathstone Director of Strategic Planning, Standards and Practices, said the program helped develop competencies in an engaging and interesting way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Agency and programming are excellent; however, our core belief in continuous quality improvement has helped us to discover, create and implement innovative practices and solutions that better support families and individuals that we serve,\u201d said Helmeczi.\u00a0\u201cThe training in leadership health care is an excellent example of this commitment. Goodman Group worked with us to flesh out a curriculum that would provide a level of management insight and expertise to meet this need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This certificate is just one example of the professional development programs Goodman Group offers the Niagara community. In addition to creating custom professional development based on organizational needs, the group runs a number of programs open to the public.
