Although it may not look particularly lush right now, Brock University is known for its beautiful green campus. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Maintaining the flowerbeds, lawns and trees takes a team of talented people, including student employees.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s one of the best student jobs on campus because you get to work 40 hours per week outside all summer with weekends and evenings off,\u201d said John Dick, Manager, Grounds Services.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Facilities Management is currently hiring several student employees to work throughout the spring and summer terms, from May to August. Most students work 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., however, shifts can be flexible. Time is spent weeding, trimming and mulching. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy\u00a0<\/span>favourite<\/span>\u00a0task was mulching because it was more physical,\u201d said Alanna Norris, Therapeutic Recreation student and varsity volleyball player who helped maintain the University\u2019s grounds the past few summers. \u201cI love staying active, so this job is an easy way to incorporate exercise into my daily routine.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Student grounds employees are also involved in special landscaping projects. For example, Economics student Blake Smith helped create the University\u2019s labyrinth last summer.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a team effort, so I got to work alongside the experienced full-time grounds employees,\u201d he said. \u201cThe job was a nice way to spend time outdoors and still be close to the school, which made it easy for me to take summer courses.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Students interested in the student summer grounds position are invited\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>apply online<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>or attend the upcoming\u00a0<\/span>Experience Expo<\/span><\/a>\u00a0from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28 at the Ian D. Beddis Gymnasium in Walker Sports Complex.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
