{"id":62973,"date":"2020-01-06T16:16:01","date_gmt":"2020-01-06T21:16:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=62973"},"modified":"2020-01-06T16:17:54","modified_gmt":"2020-01-06T21:17:54","slug":"michelle-mcginn-appointed-as-brocks-associate-vice-president-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2020\/01\/michelle-mcginn-appointed-as-brocks-associate-vice-president-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Michelle McGinn appointed as Brock\u2019s Associate Vice-President, Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For Michelle McGinn, the new year also started with a new title: Brock\u00a0University\u2019s Associate Vice-President, Research.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMcGinn has already done remarkable work in support of Brock researchers and the scholarly enterprise in a range of roles including that of Interim AVPR,\u201d says Vice-President, Research Tim Kenyon.\u00a0\u201cHer appointment is excellent news for the Brock research community and for the research community across Ontario and Canada.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>McGinn was appointed <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/05\/vpr-appoints-interim-associate-vice-president-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Interim AVPR<\/a> in May 2018. In that role, her key accomplishments included heading up efforts to create and implement the Canada Research Chairs Program\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/research-at-brock\/research-chairs\/crc-equity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) policy<\/a>, co-creating the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/research-at-brock\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/73\/Brock-Strategic-Research-Plan-2019-2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Strategic Research Plan<\/a>\u00a0and updating research policies and procedures, among other activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited to be working with staff who provide direct, frontline services to researchers and with the faculty we are here to serve so they can focus their efforts on their research,\u201d says McGinn.\u00a0\u201cOur institution has excellent supports in place to facilitate research.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Prior to her term as Interim A-VPR, McGinn was Associate Dean, Graduate Student Services, Research, and International in the Faculty of Education. Her expertise in higher education includes the formation and implementation of research teams that operate across subject matters and disciplines.<\/p>\n<p>Her early dissertation work focused on the sociology of science, where she interacted with a range of scientists and documented their work practices. Her more recent work has focused primarily on social science research teams and the broader research policy landscape in Ontario. The <a href=\"https:\/\/arictproject.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Academic Researchers in Challenging Times<\/a> project is attuned to the expectations for accountability and productivity within an ever-spreading research culture.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, she completed a continuing education Certificate in Research Administration from Mohawk College.
