{"id":62621,"date":"2019-12-11T09:44:59","date_gmt":"2019-12-11T14:44:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=62621"},"modified":"2019-12-13T11:01:50","modified_gmt":"2019-12-13T16:01:50","slug":"safer-walkway-opens-in-finished-construction-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2019\/12\/safer-walkway-opens-in-finished-construction-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Safer walkway opens in finished construction project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After nearly two and a half years of extensive work, the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) construction project on St. David\u2019s Road\/Sir Isaac Brock Way is now complete.<\/p>\n<p>During the project\u2019s design stage, the Niagara Region, City of Thorold and City of St. Catharines requested the multi-use-path, which will safely accommodate foot and bicycle traffic alongside the many vehicles that currently use the corridor.<\/p>\n<p>The MTO\u2019s Senior Issues Advisor Astrid Poei said the ministry was able to deliver that critical component.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe project team developed an innovative design to accommodate a safe path for pedestrians and cyclists, while providing full traffic movements as currently exists,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The new path will connect Brock University and the business district on the west side of the\u00a0interchange with the residential community to the east.\u00a0In addition to the path, the work involved rehabilitating the structures at the Highway 406, Highway 58 and St. David\u2019s Road interchange, as well as rehabilitating the structures at the Highway 58 and Collier Road interchange, the Decew Road bridge and the Highway 406 Lake Gibson bridges.<\/p>\n<p>Construction also included pavement rehabilitation from the north-bound direction of Highway 58 (from Highway 20 to the Highway 406-Highway 58-St. David\u2019s Road interchange).<\/p>\n<p>With the MTO\u2019s portion of the project complete, the Region will now extend the multi-use-path to the west of the ministry\u2019s project to Schmon Parkway and to the east of the project to Collier Road.
