Ren\u00e9e Zellweger takes on the role of Hollywood icon Judy Garland in Judy<\/a>, playing this Thursday at 7 p.m. at BUFS.<\/p>\n

This hotly anticipated biopic focuses on the last year of Garland\u2019s short life. In 1968, she finds herself broke, homeless and needing quick cash. A five-week run at London\u2019s Talk of the Town takes her away from her two youngest children and into her fifth marriage, while bringing us behind the scenes for a look at the heartbreaking reality of a living legend\u2019s last kick at the can.<\/p>\n

Moira Macdonald of the Seattle Times<\/em>\u00a0writes: “What\u2019s most appealing about Zellweger\u2019s portrayal is the brightness that peeps out from the clouds: her deep love for her children, her sly wit\u2026 You get a sense, in this skilled and splendid performance, not of an icon, but a person; one terribly damaged by her past and valiantly struggling to remain in her present.\u201d<\/p>\n

Already surrounded by Oscar buzz very early in the season, the film has been nominated for several awards, with Ren\u00e9e Zellweger winning Actress of the Year at the Hollywood Film Awards for her performance.<\/p>\n

Tickets for all BUFS shows are available at the Film House in the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre (PAC) on the evening of screenings. General admission is $9.50 or $7 for\u00a0Film House members<\/a>, plus tax. Free BUFS memberships are also available on screening nights.<\/p>\n
