{"id":60681,"date":"2019-09-24T12:10:15","date_gmt":"2019-09-24T16:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=60681"},"modified":"2019-09-24T22:57:11","modified_gmt":"2019-09-25T02:57:11","slug":"hundreds-of-alumni-reconnected-at-sold-out-homecoming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2019\/09\/hundreds-of-alumni-reconnected-at-sold-out-homecoming\/","title":{"rendered":"Hundreds of alumni reconnect at sold-out Homecoming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock University welcomed hundreds of alumni and friends to network, reconnect and soak up the last bit of summer for another sold-out Homecoming Weekend Friday, Sept. 20 through Sunday, Sept. 22.<\/p>\n<p>The most anticipated alumni event of the year delivered a variety of activities on and off campus, including the Grape Stomp, Alumni Recognition Reception, Goodman School of Business barbecue and tours, Brock Night at the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival, and the annual Hometown Baseball game.<\/p>\n<p>The Alumni Recognition Reception on Saturday hosted more than 170 Brock alumni and friends for a light luncheon and awards ceremony. In attendance were alumni celebrating their 25- and 50-year milestone anniversaries, as well as prestigious award recipients.\u00a0The 2019 Distinguished Faculty Graduate Award recipients are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Faculty of Applied Health Sciences \u2014 John MacDonald (BRLS \u201982)<\/li>\n<li>Faculty of Education \u2014 Manny Figueiredo (MEd \u201901)<\/li>\n<li>Faculty of Humanities \u2014 Paul Paterson (BA \u201990, BEd \u201905, ENPC \u201905)<\/li>\n<li>Faculty of Mathematics and Science \u2014 Kirsty Salmon (BSc \u201991, MSc \u201994)<\/li>\n<li>Faculty of Social Sciences \u2014 Alan Nursall (BA \u201979)<\/li>\n<li>Goodman School of Business \u2014 Rita Middleton (BAdmin \u201987)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Gregory Craig (BBA \u201991), President and CEO of Canadian Tire Bank, was presented with the 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award for his professional achievements with the Canadian Tire Corporation and service to his community. The 2019 Outstanding Young Alumni Award was presented to Alex Valova (BA \u201908) for her dedication to her profession, the Brock student body and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Alumni also gathered at the annual Brock Night at the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival to enjoy local VQA wine, food and good company.
