More than 500\u00a0<\/span>Brock University faculty and staff gathered in Jubilee Court Thursday afternoon to enjoy the summer weather and\u00a0<\/span>each other’s<\/span>\u00a0company in celebration of the approaching Fall Term.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The annual Opening of Term barbecue encouraged University employees, who are busy preparing for the arrival of more than 19,000 students, to take time\u00a0to celebrat<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0the work they have accomplished over the past year and to look ahead to the new term.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Opening of Term barbecue featured live music and lawn games such as cornhole and giant Jenga.<\/p><\/div>\n

The popular event featured live music, lawn games, barbecued burgers, summer salads and cold beverages. Ice cream was served by staff volunteers with Brock\u2019s United Way Committee.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

President\u00a0<\/span>Gervan<\/span>\u00a0Fearon addressed the\u00a0<\/span>lively\u00a0<\/span>crowd with remarks of appreciation<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Students and alumni have shared with me that Brock has made a significant difference in their lives,\u201d he said. \u201cThe wonderful work our faculty and staff do day in and day out contributes to their success.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fearon referenced notable Brock accomplishments, including\u00a0<\/span>consistently increasing enrolment the past four years<\/span>; ranking Top 3 in Maclean\u2019s Magazine for student satisfaction;\u00a0<\/span>investing $250 million over the last decade to modernize\u00a0<\/span>student-<\/span>centred<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>teaching and learning space<\/span>s; and f<\/span>aculty members being\u00a0<\/span>recognized for their teaching and research excellence.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He also\u00a0<\/span>credited\u00a0<\/span>the culture of engagement and customer service faculty and staff have created<\/span>\u00a0for<\/span>\u00a0the 13 per cent increase in the number of students who selected Brock as their first-choice university.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe camaraderie our employees have with each other is passed on to the people we serve,\u201d he said. \u201cThat is why students are choosing us as their No. 1 university.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t
