{"id":57912,"date":"2019-05-08T09:52:39","date_gmt":"2019-05-08T13:52:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=57912"},"modified":"2019-05-14T13:59:31","modified_gmt":"2019-05-14T17:59:31","slug":"new-scholarship-available-for-international-math-and-science-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2019\/05\/new-scholarship-available-for-international-math-and-science-students\/","title":{"rendered":"New scholarship available for international Math and Science students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A new initiative will give international students the chance to gain research experience under the supervision of a Math and Science faculty member.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ten $1,000\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/mathematics-science\/international-student-research-scholarship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">International Student Research Scholarship<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> awards have been made available through the Faculty of Math and Science that will provide recipients each with 60 hours of research experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eligible students must meet the following criteria:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be an international student enrolled in an undergraduate program from the Faculty of Mathematics and Science<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have completed five or more credits in the undergraduate program<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Possess a minimum cumulative average of 75 per cent<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before applying, students must first seek out a professor who is available to take them on as a research scholarship student. A list of available faculty members can be found on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/mathematics-science\/international-student-research-scholarship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Math and Science website.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once a mentor has been secured, the details of their agreement must be determined (i.e. the dates the student will work and the tasks for which they will be responsible) and submitted as part of the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/mathematics-science\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/International-Student-Research-Scholarship-Application-Form-April-25.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">scholarship application form<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cResearch is a large part of our Faculty\u2019s identity,\u201d said Ejaz Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Math and Science. \u201cWe want our students to get the most out of their education.
