{"id":57581,"date":"2019-04-22T12:37:52","date_gmt":"2019-04-22T16:37:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=57581"},"modified":"2019-04-25T15:20:41","modified_gmt":"2019-04-25T19:20:41","slug":"goodman-receives-accolades-from-international-honour-society","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2019\/04\/goodman-receives-accolades-from-international-honour-society\/","title":{"rendered":"Goodman receives accolades from international honour society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brock\u2019s Goodman School of Business received international attention last week when it received the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.betagammasigma.org\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beta Gamma Sigma<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Silver Outstanding Chapter of the Year Award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The honour, which recognizes excellence in chapter performance, was presented to Dean Andrew Gaudes at the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International Conference and Annual Meeting in Edinburgh, Scotland, April 14.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHaving Goodman recognized as the Silver Outstanding Chapter of the Year is a great honour,\u201d Gaudes says. \u201cIt reflects the great work done by our students, faculty and staff in building our chapter.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each year, the top 10 per cent of undergraduate students and top 20 per cent of graduate students are inducted as members of Goodman\u2019s chapter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beta Gamma Sigma\u2019s mission is to encourage and honour academic achievement in the study of business, to cultivate and celebrate leadership and professional excellence, to advance the values of society and serve its lifelong members.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two American universities were also recognized. The Haub School of Business at Saint Joseph\u2019s University in Pennsylvania was honoured with the Gold award and the Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University in Ohio received the Bronze.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than 600 chapters around the world are eligible for Beta Gamma Sigma\u2019s highest chapter recognition says Chief Executive Officer Chris Carosella.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAs our Silver winner, Brock University shows a superior level of commitment to honouring academic achievement, encouraging leadership development, displaying a commitment to service and supporting the business community,\u201d she says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This isn\u2019t the first time that Goodman has been recognized by Beta Gamma Sigma. In 2017, Goodman also took home the Silver Outstanding Chapter of the Year Award, preceded by the Bronze award in 2007. The School was recognized last year with an honourable mention for Chapter of the Year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis recognition isn\u2019t something that happened by chance,\u201d Gaudes says. \u201cIt\u2019s a direct result of the ongoing and sustained support for our students and their development.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brock is one of only nine Canadian universities to have a Beta Gamma Sigma chapter. Brock\u2019s chapter began in 2004, and has since inducted more than 1,500 students, 56 faculty members and 26 chapter honourees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each year, Goodman sends four students to Beta Gamma Sigma\u2019s Global Leadership Summit as a leadership and personal development opportunity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Silver Outstanding Chapter Award comes with a US$1,000 scholarship for an outstanding student member.
